(01) Why It Matters
Building the BFL Brand From the Early Years
BFL is an award-winning shade manufacturer serving the B2B market, built around custom fabrication, specialty systems and a dealer network. It is a separate company from Brading Specialty Shades, which sells direct to the client. BFL supplies the trade. We have been their brand and marketing partner since the early years of the company.
Starting that early changes what the work is. There was no inherited identity to untangle and no previous agency's assumptions to work around. It also meant the first question was not how to market the products. It was what to call them.
Their audience is dealers, architects, designers, builders and trade partners, which rules out the usual answers. Nobody in that group is moved by consumer advertising. They are moved by credibility, by product value they can explain to their own client, and by a manufacturer who looks like an authority on custom shade fabrication rather than a fabricator taking orders.
Product Naming and Positioning.
Astirium™. ElaraShade™. Elara FreshAir™. Laudations™. SolaraShade™. SolaraSky™. Solara Roman.
Seven product brands, developed with the naming and positioning work behind them. Naming and positioning sit in Foundation, where the Brand-to-Revenue Performance System begins, and getting them right is what holds a portfolio together downstream. Names built from one strategy produce families rather than a list: Elara and Solara each carry their own logic, so a dealer meeting a new system already knows roughly where it sits and what it is for.
A manufacturer who launches products with descriptive names is selling components. A manufacturer whose products have brands is selling a range, and can extend it for years without starting over each time.

Technical Literature Dealers Can Sell From.
These are not window coverings. The systems involve motorization, specialty fabrics, custom installation requirements, automation integration, privacy control, light management, UV protection and advanced hardware, in combinations that change with the application.
Astirium™ is a banded system for controlling light and privacy, customizable, motorized, and able to integrate with third-party home automation. Solara Roman and Elara FreshAir™ carry a different set of arguments again: sunroom applications, insect-free living spaces, specialty tracks, Lutron and Gaposa motor integration, and automation compatibility that has to be stated precisely because an installer will hold us to it.
Our job is to turn that into literature a dealer can sell from. Precise enough that a system gets configured correctly before it is quoted, clear enough that the dealer's own customer understands what they are buying.
Manufacturer and Distributor at Once.
Alongside the systems they fabricate, BFL represents and distributes key global shade brands. That is a genuine positioning problem, not a footnote.
Lean too far toward the manufacturing story and the distributed brands look like a sideline. Lean too far toward distribution and BFL reads as a reseller who also happens to make things, which surrenders the authority the fabrication earns. We built the positioning to hold both, so BFL presents as a manufacturer with its own engineered range and as a trusted product channel for dealers and partners across Toronto, Ontario and the wider Canadian market.
The campaign work around the OLG Theatre, carrying Silent Gliss alongside BFL's own systems, is that positioning made visible: one supplier answering for what it builds and what it carries on the same project.
For a dealer, that combination is the actual value. One relationship covers what BFL builds and what BFL supplies.
Photography, Video and Sales Literature.
An engineered shade is only convincing installed. We produce the project photography, the promotional and educational video, the product sheets, the branded system literature and the web assets, so a dealer has something to put in front of a client that shows the fascia detail, the fabric behaviour and the finished sight lines rather than describing them.

One Brand Across Every Asset.
Every asset is drawn from the same Foundation, which is why a product sheet for one system, a video for another and a page on the website all read as output from a single manufacturer. That is not a house style applied afterwards. It is a consequence of the names, the positioning and the literature all having been built from one strategy.
The alternative is what most specialized manufacturers end up with: a brochure from one supplier, a website from another, a video from a third, each competent and none of them agreeing. Product education suffers first, dealer confidence second, and authority in the category last.
Technical innovation does not sell itself. It sells once a dealer can explain it as easily as the manufacturer can.
